Fabrication en série d'éléments de construction destinés à être assemblés ultérieurement suivant un plan préétabli; mode de construction fondé sur l'emploi de ces éléments. Préfabrication en série. Il fallut donc construire suivant les méthodes traditionnelles anglaises (montage sur cale et large emploi du rivetage (...)) plutôt que par préfabrication et mise en place d'éléments assemblés d'un poids relativement important (LE MASSON, Mar., 1951, p.97). Les bâtiments sont de même type qu'à Behren, construits selon la législation HLM, à l'initiative des houillères de Lorraine, en utilisant la préfabrication lourde (Gds ensembles habit., 1963, p.34).
